What Would Happen If The Ice Caps Melted – Considering the world’s two largest ice caps – Antarctica and Greenland – together stretch over 6 million square miles of ice… yes, we’re talking.
This video (below) from Business Insider Science shows exactly what our coastline would look like if all the ice on Earth melted. And spoiler alert: it’s not great.
What Would Happen If The Ice Caps Melted
Millions of people in Asia, in cities like Mumbai, Beijing and Tokyo, will be uprooted and forced to move inland.

And in the United States, we see places like Houston, San Francisco and New York, not to mention the state of Florida, slowly disappearing into the sea.
Business Insider used these visuals based on National Geographic’s prediction that if all the world’s land ice melted into our oceans, sea levels would rise 216 feet (!).
There’s even a tool where you can take a detailed look at how rising seas might affect your community, for better or worse.
However… looking at these charts, it’s hard to imagine that “for the best” is a possible outcome for most of us.
What Earth Would Look Like If The Ice Melted
Many of America’s most populated areas will be significantly affected by sea level rise, as you can see by examining a map created by Alex Tingle using data provided by NASA.
I’m bringing this up not just for fun, but because the above cards are real possibilities.
As we continue to burn fossil fuels for energy and release carbon into the atmosphere, the planet will get warmer. And that, ladies and gentlemen, means melted ice.
A study published last September by researchers from the US, UK and Germany found that if we don’t change our ways, we have enough fossil fuel resources to melt the entire Antarctic ice sheet.
Polar Bears Are Inbreeding Due To Melting Sea Ice, Posing Risk To Survival Of The Species, Scientists Say
“It doesn’t happen overnight, but what’s amazing is that our actions today are changing the face of planet Earth as we know it and will continue to do so for tens of thousands of years,” said the study’s lead author. Ricarda Winkelmann, Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research.
“If we want to prevent this, we have to keep coal, gas and oil underground,” he says.
The good news? Much of our coastline is still intact! If we act now, they can stay that way.
Start treating climate change like a global crisis—and you, too, can help solve the problem.
What If All The Ice In Antarctica Melted?
Joy A man may have met his “dream girl” at a bar, but she only gave him part of her phone number.
A woman named Jackie recently dropped out of the romantic comedy and the internet has gathered around her potential love interest. Jackie met a guy at a bar and liked him so much that she gave him his phone number. 80% of its number, that is.
The world heard about it on January 17 when Twitter user Henpecked Hal shared a photo of a napkin with his phone number on it. “My 22 year old cousin met the girl of his dreams at a bar and it’s going great,” Hal tweeted.
“Call me! 512-3*1-2*04,” the message reads, “I deserve it.” 512 is the area code for Austin, Texas.

After congratulating his sister-in-law on meeting “the girl of his dreams”, he asked: “I got her number.” “Most of them,” replied the uncle. The tweet also included a photo of a list of phone numbers she tried to contact her cousin Jackie with that didn’t match.

The next day, Hal said the woman caught up with him. In a screenshot of her post, she wrote: “Heyyyy so you might not see this but I’m Jackie on Twitter!”
“Tell your uncle I’ll see him the next time I see him…” he continued, but Hal blurted out the rest of the message to hide his identity.

“I just talked to him! WHAT’S YOUR NUMBER????” replied Hal. “He said he’s halfway through the list, which is like 10 percent of the way through the list.”
“He might not be as smart as he thinks he is,” Jackie replied, “give me his number and I’ll do the operation.”
In the comments, a lot of people said they thought Jackie was cold or arrogant for playing hard to get and poor cousin Hal trying 100 different numbers to see which one was his. But Hal says it’s all just a continuation of the conversation they had at the bar.
“For people who say it’s pretentious, over-the-top service, or whatever: these guys are going to be an hour into true crime, mysteries, and more.” talked about a common interest,” Hal wrote. “My cousin used to brag about solving the case before the show was over (ed. note: not this time). I think that’s great.”
Researchers Warn Of Melting Antarctic Ice Sheet
So Jackie gave him another puzzle to solve. If he’s such a great amateur detective, he should get it, right?
Some people in the comments said the story was fake. One person noticed that the page of the notebook with the phone numbers had an indentation that could be the “5” from Jackie’s phone number on the napkin. Conclusion: Hal wrote on a napkin on a notebook and left an indent. But other people pointed out that the record was inconsistent.
Through it all, Hal has received a lot of support from people on Twitter trying to help his cousin’s love life.
“The programmers who sent me scripts and code, the Excel geeks who sent me documents to share with my cousin, you’re all wild,” wrote Hal. “I couldn’t get back to everyone, but I appreciate it.”

Almost 90 million people watched the story of Hal and Jackie’s cousin. Let’s hope they get a happy ending or at least meet each other to talk about the mystery that brought them together.
Although people have endless opportunities to find love both in real life and online, finding the perfect person is still not easy. In fact, according to Pew Research, 55% of women believe it’s harder today than it was 10 years ago. So it’s understandable that some are considering leaving apps behind to meet people in real life.
According to Newsweek, a study by Illinois State University sociology professor Susan Sprecher found that young people who met face-to-face for the first time reported 25% more feelings of intimacy than those who first met online. Aditi Paul, professor of communication at Pace University in New York, found that people who meet for the first time in real life live four times longer than those who meet online.
Single women frustrated with men they met online have started a hilarious TikTok trend where they go to Home Depot to find a man. Why not? If you’re looking for a hard worker, you’ll probably find one.
Greenland Ice Sheet May Be More Vulnerable To Climate Change, Study Finds
The trend seems to have first started in 2021 on TikTok. “No joke ladies, Home Depot is the place to go if you want to meet a guy,” said TikTok user @meganlouise217.
Holly Allen is an admitted woman, but she swears men are “all over the place” at the Depot at 8:30 a.m. on Wednesdays. “For all the ladies out there trying to find their perfect soulmate. I found them,” she said.
TikTok user @jolene_d picked up on the trend and asked Home Depot employees where they could find single guys. “Do you have a singles corridor?” he asked.
Reply @jolene_d @jenhealer I tried! @Home Depot. It didn’t work. (Week 2 1/2 of my 4 week online dating experience.) #homedepot #onlinedating #single
If Thwaites Glacier Collapses, It Would Change Global Coastlines Forever
However, love is hard to find no matter where you look. Some women have complained about going to their local Home Depot and leaving empty-handed.
Megan Louise has some words for those who say there are no single men at Home Depot. He says they go at the wrong time.
“He’s a good guy, he works, he works during the day,” Megan said. “You have to go when they open at five. They go before work, so they’ll pick up anything you forgot, lost, or broke the day before. Now they’re in a hurry, they’re late, and they’re probably not there. They still have coffee. So you have to be ready, write down your number and give it to them and hopefully you will believe in love at first sight because it will.
It’s also best to avoid Saturdays because married men shop at Home Depot that time. She says Friday nights are great because all the men hang out with their significant others.
