My mom’s favorite treat when I was growing up was probably the milkshake. We’ll alternate between cookies and cream, strawberry shake, or chocolate chip cookies, but chocolate is always my favorite choice. Expect to be an adult (with a metabolism not as fast as when I was a kid) and having a few milkshakes a week just doesn’t work for me anymore. I mean, it’s still those weeks, but… I want to get into my jeans.

So, when you make a chocolate protein shake recipe, it should be as *close* to a chocolate milkshake as possible – big, creamy, rich and chocolatey. And honestly, with real protein powder and cocoa powder, this shake is 100% of that. It quenches my sugar cravings, is full of protein, and is about as good as it gets for a healthy milkshake. I hope you love it!

Honestly, it depends on what you use! My first tip? Use a delicious protein powder.

I’ve tried my fair share of protein powders and for this shake, I recommend a whey-based protein powder sweetened with stevia. Protein powder can make or break a shake – leaving you with a great aftertaste or, worse, powder. Here is a list of the top protein powders. My personal favorite: Best Nutrition® Gold Standard 100% Whey Protein Powder (Double-Rich Chocolate)

I’ve been playing around with the ingredients in this shake for years, and I’m telling you, the ingredients you use make a difference.

Another ingredient that makes a big difference is cocoa powder. Cocoa provides protein and enhances chocolate flavor.

Use real cocoa powder in this shake for a rich chocolate flavor. This is my all time favorite cocoa powder (it will literally change your life if you bake too much with cocoa powder!).

Protein is essential for weight loss*. Getting enough protein can help boost your metabolism and curb your appetite while helping you lose body fat instead of muscle. That said, protein shakes (this one) have fewer calories. So if the shakes work with a large macro or calorie goal, they can be a great aid to weight loss. Consult a nutritionist to see how chocolate protein shakes work in your personal health or weight loss plan.

Note 1: Banana: When the banana is ripe, cut it into pieces and put it in a small ziplock bag. Cover overnight or until firm.

Note 2: Protein powder: Depending on the protein powder you use (some are sweetened with stevia) you may need additional sweetener in your shake. I usually use a little stevia or some maple syrup or honey. Add to personal preference.

Let’s first answer the question, “How can I gain weight?” Without going into too much detail, gaining weight is as simple as eating more calories than you burn in a day. (1) It is important to understand that some people burn more calories than others, but this depends on various factors such as lifestyle, body type, genetics and more.

Endomorphs are those who have the easiest time gaining weight. They store fat quickly but have a harder time shedding it, and have the slowest metabolism of the three body types. Like endomorphs, mesomorphs have an easier time gaining weight but their weight is usually in a healthy range. (2) Mesomorphs can also burn fat relatively easily. Ectomorphs have a hard time building muscle and gaining weight because of their metabolism. Of the three body types, ectomorphs have the fastest metabolism.

Eating the right foods for your body type can be not only expensive, but also time consuming. People who are on a tight budget or don’t have enough time to cook will definitely benefit from a weight loss shake. By increasing your protein intake, you can put on extra weight while saving money.

One serving of Weight Gainers contains about 436 calories, 42 grams of protein, 22 grams of carbohydrates, and 20 grams of fat. Plus, it can be prepared in less than 5 minutes.

Protein Shake Recipes That Taste Like Dessert

In a blender, ¾ cup unsweetened almond milk or whole milk (for added calories), ¼ cup Greek yogurt, ¼ cup frozen cherries, 1 scoop vanilla whey protein (separated or condensed), 1 teaspoon cocoa or unsweetened cocoa powder combine the Mix 1 tablespoon natural peanut butter or any nut butter, 1 tablespoon flaxseed meal, stevia water (optional), and ½ cup 1 cup ice.

The flavors of the ingredients complement well in this recipe and you will definitely enjoy it. Almond milk (or whole milk), plain Greek yogurt, vanilla whey protein powder, and nut butters will give your shake a rich, delicious flavor. A tart of frozen cherries will balance the richness of the shake while cocoa (or cocoa powder) gives it a chocolate flavor. If the shake is not too sweet, you can add liquid stevia.

Overall, this is one of the best protein powder formulas to help you pack on the pounds. Say thank you for your old, thin you and big body. Only 4 ingredients – no cream!! It’s easy to pick me up in the afternoon.
