How To Edit Pictures Professionally In Photoshop – One of the questions I hear most often in the photography groups I belong to is “how do I get a painterly look?”. But the truth is, there is no magic button for editing a picture! It’s just another editing style that photographers learn by making many mistakes and putting in many hours of hard work. In my opinion, this is the most time-consuming and one of the most beautiful types of editing styles, but it’s worth the effort.

Some of these tools (while not simple) have very specific functions that you use for specific tasks (such as the Unsharp Mask). The Photoshop Camera Raw filter is different.

This filter allows you to use (almost) all the features of Adobe Camera Raw (ACR) in any Photoshop workflow. If you’ve ever used ACR (or Lightroom) to process a raw file, you know exactly how rich this tool is.
The Camera Raw filter is a powerful tool that allows you to access ACR features at any time of your workflow.
Normally, you’d use ACR to process photos at the beginning of your raw workflow, but the Camera Raw filter opens up these tools whenever you want.
This article explains how to use the Photoshop Camera Raw filter, shows you some of the best times to use it, and provides tips on how to get the most out of it.

Lightroom is great for processing raw files (as is ACR), but what if you could use these tools in Photoshop?
At its simplest, the Photoshop Camera Raw filter allows Photoshop to use the ACR interface at any time. This allows you to arbitrarily adjust the ACR at any point in the workflow, rather than restricting its use to the raw processing stage.
While it would be possible to import the working file into Lightroom to perform the same sets of adjustments, doing so in Photoshop avoids this difficult step. This allows you to use these tools without any extra effort.
To find the Photoshop Camera Raw filter, simply select Filter->Camera Raw Filter and a dialog box will appear.
Three Photoshop Tips For Beginners
Before doing this, you may want to stamp all layers by pressing Ctrl+Shift+Alt+e (Cmd+Shift+Alt+e). This will merge all of your layers into a new layer that you can work from.
White Balance – Since you’re not working with a raw file, you lose a lot of the white balance functionality in ACR. You will still be able to drastically change the color of your photos with this tool. This will be the same as, for example, Lightroom’s JPG adjustment.
Crop tool – You also lose the crop and rotate tools you would have access to when working with RAW files.
In Photoshop Camera Raw’s various filter menus, you’ll find several options that ACR lacks.

It’s also important to realize that since you’re not currently working with a raw file, you won’t have the same versatility in ACR as you would with a raw file.
Instead, the process will be similar to working with a JPG file in Lightroom or ACR. This means you’ll have less information to work with, such as dynamic range.
This is fine and to be expected. But it does show how important it is to get things as right as possible in the rough stage of post-processing.
With all the power of the ACR filter in Photoshop Camera Raw, there’s no way to compile anything like a comprehensive list of what you can do with it. However, here are some possible uses that I find myself using frequently.

After some time in Photoshop and doing a bit of remedial work, I decided I wanted to make the image a touch cooler and also reduce the brightness. In order not to lose the healing effect, I used the Photoshop Camera Raw filter for a quick adjustment.
If you’re like me, you mostly make customization decisions on the spot. This is good when you process a raw file and immediately transfer it to Photoshop. But if you leave it for a day or two until you get there, you may find that you don’t like the decisions you’ve already made.
Of course, you can always go back to Lightroom and start over, but what if you’ve already started tweaking your image?
Chances are you don’t want to lose them. A quick and easy solution is to stamp the layers on a new layer and run a Camera Raw filter. There you can make any changes you want and click OK.
How To Change Grey Background To White Background In Photoshop
This is great if you want to quickly adjust things like overall exposure, contrast, or image brightness. I often come back to a file a few days later and realize I want to tone down the highlights and whites before starting properly.
I find the ACR tool in Clarity difficult to replicate in Photoshop. Here I’ve darkened the background and increased the clarity using the Camera Raw filter. I also used a layer mask to keep the changes from being applied to the object.
Photoshop can be all-powerful on its own, but ACR (and Lightroom) makes some things easier. For example, the transparency slider is difficult to recreate in Photoshop. Using Photoshop’s raw filter to make these adjustments is easier and saves a lot of time.
Another example is using the Highlights, Whites, Darks, and Blacks sliders for quick and intuitive global contrast adjustments. As such, using these tools is useful if you’re not completely familiar with options like curve fitting or if you’re new to it.

Here the shirt sleeve was still too bright for my taste, so as a local adjustment I used a radial filter to tone it down a bit.
A common way to use the Camera Raw filter in Photoshop is to adjust the target area (such as the background).
After you’ve made your changes, you can use a layer mask to make sure your adjustments are only applied to selected areas.
This method works well with textured backgrounds because you can adjust the transparency and contrast to your liking, knowing that it won’t affect your subject when the layer mask is created.

ACR’s vignetting tool is light, fast and intuitive, and difficult to beat in Photoshop unless you want full control.
There are many ways to create vignettes in Photoshop, but in my opinion, the ACR vignette tool is the easiest, fastest and most intuitive to use. By doing this, you can create a subtle (or extreme if you prefer) vignette in just a few seconds. It’s also easy to mask out (as in the previous section) any part of the vignette that might interfere with your subject.
Once the image is ready, you can always load the Camera Raw filter and check if it’s there
