How Much To Stay At The Biltmore – The Biltmore Estate in Asheville, North Carolina may be America’s closest example of an actual castle. The 250-room French Renaissance church is also the largest private residence in the country. Built by George Vanderbilt in 1895, the estate’s current 8,000 acres are only a small portion of what the original Vanderbilts called home. Fortunately, you don’t need a trust fund to enjoy today’s bountiful life at the Biltmore Estate, especially when you use these tips and tricks to make a visit possible and affordable.
1. Do your research before you go. The Biltmore Estate is vast, with homes, gardens, a winery, shops, 22 miles of walking trails, restaurants and hotels. None of this grandeur is accessible without a ticket or annual pass. On more popular weekends, reservations are required at the inn with specific hours.

3. Visit in winter. Tickets are significantly less than $39 during the winter season, from January to March.
4. Go for two days. Tickets can be multi-day, but adding a second day for $10-15 (depending on the season) makes this weekend more reasonable. And, trust us, you’ll need that second day if you plan to see everything on the property.
5. Save room for wine. Biltmore Winery is America’s most visited winery and in 2015 celebrated 30 years of French-inspired wine. After the tour, you can try the award-winning wines

You’ll also receive two free tickets each winter to purchase discounted family admission. By showing your Biltmore Estate Annual Pass, you’ll receive discounts on some of the area’s most popular attractions. Even the world’s richest and most powerful George Vanderbilts had to pay estate taxes, but when their property is a national treasure like the Biltmore House, calculating its value is complicated.
The Buncombe County assessor was tasked with setting the price of America’s largest private residence, with 250 rooms and approximately 135,000 square feet, built in 1895 and modeled after a French Renaissance chapel. The figures released this week show the value of this house at about 37 million dollars and about 2194 hectares. The eyes are worth more than 64 million dollars. Including hotels, restaurants, outbuildings and private residences, the total value of the Biltmore estate’s public areas is nearly $300 million, according to the IRS.
The Biltmore Company and a group of related companies own about 8,000 acres of property, but it is divided into several properties, some of which are not owned by the Biltmore Company. George Vanderbilt’s heirs divided the property into several companies in 1979, including Biltmore Corporation and Biltmore Farms. Most of the property, west of the French River, is owned by West Range LLC and is valued at approximately $78 million. Does not include $300 million. Many properties are not regularly open to the public.
Keith Miller, who oversees the tax department’s appraisals, said appraising the Biltmore property is “one of our most complex tasks.”
Visiting The Biltmore Estate On A Budget
Like other properties in Asheville, Biltmore properties have appreciated since the last appraisal in 2013. The area near the Biltmore House (2,194 acres) increased in value by 40%, and the value of the buildings on that land, including the Biltmore House but not the hotel, increased by 27%. These increases are in line with the average 24 percent increase in property values in Buncombe County.
The Inn on Biltmore Estate has seen a 26 percent price increase since 2013, to $46.6 million. The value of the new village hotel is about 34 million dollars, which has increased by about 6% since its opening last year.
So where did the $37 million price tag of the 1895 Biltmore House come from? Miller said the tax office does not count the value of lighting fixtures and woodwork, contrary to popular belief. He said valuing a Biltmore home is more like valuing a factory or department store than a regular residence.
“Comparing homes, at least in America, is not very accessible,” he said. “Really, you have to go somewhere outside of this country to see a castle like this.”

Instead of looking at the French countryside for comparison, they looked at the Biltmore’s earnings to determine its value. Miller said square footage is recorded, but they are not related to the residential assessment.
“We do this with the understanding that it may no longer be habitable,” he said.
“For the Biltmore Company itself, it’s not about value,” said Kathleen Mosher, director of communications. The property does not sell.
He said that we do business as a national historic site to preserve things for future generations, so our focus is not on preserving these things, preserving the legacy of the next generation is appreciated, so if. “Valuations have to happen, the foreigners who are looking for those valuations will do them themselves.” How to make the most of your visit to the Biltmore Estate Last updated on: September 28, 2020.

I attribute my fascination with peeking into other people’s homes to my mother. He (and me and my sister) is what he calls a “nibby”. It’s a word handed down from his West Virginia father and basically just means “noob” or “curious seeker.”
That’s why I check real estate listings online, even when I’m not house hunting. Why I’ve visited stately homes, mansions, and castles everywhere from Montana to the English countryside. And it probably has something to do with my obsession with shows like Downton Abbey.
