How Many Calories Should I Eat At Breakfast

About 45 to 55 percent of your breakfast calories should be devoted to carbohydrates, which is about 40 to 55 grams of carbohydrates. Avoid sugar and highly processed foods or foods made with too much white flour and choose whole grains, fruits and vegetables.

How Many Calories Should I Eat A Day?

About 15 to 20 percent of your breakfast calories should be protein, which equals about 13 to 20 grams. Getting enough protein at breakfast is important to keep you full throughout the morning. And studies have shown that eating at least 20 grams of protein at breakfast can also help with weight loss. Eggs, dairy, soy milk, protein powder in smoothies, nuts and seeds, and whole grains are all excellent sources of protein.

Consume about 10 to 15 grams, which is about 30 to 35 percent of your total breakfast calories. Instead of saturated fats like bacon and cheese, choose monounsaturated fats (MUFAs) like olive oil, nuts and seeds and butter made from them, and avocados.

Aim for about 25 percent of your daily recommended total of 25 grams. That’s about six grams, but as long as it doesn’t affect your digestive system, it’s fine to go for it. Berries, pears, apples, leafy greens and other vegetables, nuts, seeds and whole grains can help you achieve this goal.

If you follow the carbohydrate equation above, you don’t have to worry about overdoing it with sugar, especially if you’re eating a combination of foods like fruit, whole grains, and dairy. But to keep a rough number in mind, stick to 36 grams or less. And when it comes to added sugar, try not to exceed six grams—that’s about 1.5 teaspoons of any sweetener (white sugar, brown sugar, maple syrup, honey, or agave).

How Much Does My Kid Need To Eat?

Ideally, you should eat breakfast within 30 to 60 minutes of waking up. If you don’t feel like eating anything big right away, split this meal into two, something light near waking up and the other half about an hour and a half later. This also works well if you exercise in the morning and prefer not to have a full stomach while exercising. If you’re working out, you can try eating the most carb-based portion of your breakfast (fruit, toast, etc.) before your workout and the more protein-focused portion afterward.
