We know that almonds are rich in nutrients and are a healthy substitute for snacks. Now, new research has shown that eating 56 grams of almonds daily – the equivalent of about 46 almonds – can improve gut health by increasing butyrate levels.
The aim of the study was to show that adding almonds to the diet could be a way to increase fiber intake without causing intestinal symptoms.

Alice Creedon, a post-doctoral fellow in the Department of Nutrition at King’s College London and lead author of the study, said: “Butyrate is important for gut health as it acts as the main source of fuel for cells in the gut to function properly and optimally. It is also involved in signaling the gut to start the absorption process of nutrients. In addition, butyrate produced in the gut can enter the bloodstream, where it participates in the regulation of health in other areas of the body, such as the liver, brain, and lungs.
