Florida State Seminoles News, schedule, scores, Status – Mike Norvell took over at Florida State and Seminoles fans had high hopes for the strong offensive system he championed with Memphis. That hasn’t been the case so far, as Florida State has a higher return on investment in 2021, and the offense still can’t utilize the talent it has at its skill positions.
FSU has been at quarterback for the better part of a decade, but they may be in the worst position they’ve been in in that time. Jordan Travis is still very inconsistent, while McKenzie Milton doesn’t have the mobility or arm strength he once had. Norvell is stuck in a situation where he has to play double-evil, at least in some sense, and it hasn’t worked out so far.

Milton is a great story with his comeback from a serious knee injury that I watched live and will never forget. But he is not the man he was before the injury. If you have a large ligament in your leg, it is difficult to throw the ball effectively as a quarterback. Milton had to go all out last week to throw the ball about 47 yards downfield. I think that’s the longest he’ll be on the field. That leads to limitations from a playmaking standpoint, and that seems to be a big part of the problem for the Seminoles when he’s in the game.
Florida State Football: Will The Seminoles Make A Bowl In 2022?
The athletic quarterback that gives them the best chance to win is probably Jordan Travis. He uses his feet well, which is essential to the trouble the offensive line has blocking just about anyone. Travis also has the strength to push the ball down the field and throw it deep to his speedy receivers. The problem, of course, is that Travis can complete less than half of his passes in a game and then come back and be nearly perfect. You never know what you’re going to get. But he can extend plays and break big runs, adding a dimension to the offense that every team wants.
After watching a few games and looking at the stats, I was really surprised that FSU didn’t run the ball with more of their runners. Joshua Corbin and Treshuan Ward are averaging 7.2 yards per carry per season and are also combining for about 150 yards per game. Both sides have good size and speed, and FSU’s offense likes to work the edges to get them out into open space. I also sometimes admire Corbin’s patience. He let the block develop for him and then made people miss in the open field. Those guys could make a big impact if Norvell sticks around.
FSU’s starting lineup at wide receiver has struggled this season. The Noles have a group of veteran players, but the decline and lack of separation stood out to me. Keyshawn Helton is the top option in the slot, while Ontaria Wilson and Andrew Parchment are the starters on the outside. Wilson is coming off a game in which he threw a 60-yard touchdown pass. Helton is pretty good in space but can’t make big plays yet.
The backup at Wide Receiver has a nice highlight. Malik McClain and Darion Williamson have shown some flashes early and I think both could be factors in the game this weekend. Cam McDonald and Jordan Wilson are also big targets at tight end. Outside, the two regularly separate. Norvell also produces their Tailbacks in good numbers. Ja’Khi Douglass and Lawrance Toafili were on the field a lot. Douglass has 65 yards rushing, while Toafil is tops with 18 so far.

Florida State’s much talked about offensive line is still very inconsistent and a huge problem for the overall performance of FSU’s offense. From what I saw they blocked the route very well and they did a good job of blocking the inside and outside routes with drag protection and nothing. That’s one of the reasons I’m surprised Norvell didn’t just become a violent criminal. As far as blocking goes, I’d say FSU’s line isn’t as good as it’s been the last few years. This is what UofL needs to take advantage of. I also see them having some success against the puller run game. UofL can shoot gaps and disrupt things. Jordan Travis and the Seminoles have a home-friendly backlog as they look to turn things around in Mike Norvell’s third year as head coach.
Spring is in the books for Florida State football, and the focus has shifted to the 2022 season. The Seminoles suffered their fourth straight losing season last year, but going 5-2 in October and November brought optimism.
FSU’s 2022 schedule isn’t as daunting as it was last year. Only four of the Seminoles’ 12 opponents for the upcoming season have won more than seven games in 2021. FSU will also face four foes with first-year head coaches.
Under head coach Mike Norvell, expectations are much higher this season. In what could be a breakout year for Norvell, here’s a look at what his team will face:
Florida State Vs. Wake Forest Score: Seminoles Start 0 3 For The First Time Since 1976
Florida State’s aura of discomfort against FCS rivals evaporated last season with a stunning 20-17 loss to Jacksonville State. Duquesne was 7-3 last season and enters its 17th year under coach Jerry Schmitt. This will be the first ever home opener for the Seminoles. FSU hasn’t started 1-0 since 2016.
For the second straight season, FSU’s first game against an FBS opponent will be against a team coached by Brian Kelly. After more than a decade at Notre Dame, Kelly takes over for an LSU program that just had its first losing season since 1999. The two-game neutral-site series will take place in New Orleans. This will be the first meeting between the two schools since 1991.
For the first time since 2017, Florida State will play Friday night when they host Louisville. After falling in its last trip to Louisville, FSU’s rally was eliminated last season with a 31-23 loss in Tallahassee. The Seminoles haven’t won a season opener since 2016, but haven’t started 1-0 in ACC play since 2015.
Florida’s first ACC home game will be against a Boston College team that played in Chestnut Hill last season. The Seminoles have won the last three in the series. Boston College is promising under head coach Jeff Hafley. The winner of this contest can be in the driver’s seat and have a very productive season.
Jacksonville State Beats Florida State On Miracle Hail Mary For Last Play Of Game
Wake Forest handed FSU its biggest victory with a 35-14 victory in Winston-Salem last season, and the Demon Deacons will remain a threat to repeat as ACC Atlantic champions. Sam Hartman is a veteran pitcher who captained one of the nation’s best offenses last season, and while some parts need to be replaced, the firepower remains. Wake Forest has won its last two games, but hasn’t let Tallahassee win since 2008.
Carter-Finley Stadium has never been an easy place to play for Florida State. The Wolfpack are coming off a nine-game winning season under Dave Doeren and are 7-5 in their last 12 games against FSU. NC State returns key players on both sides of the football and looks to be a contender in the ACC Atlantic.
Florida State failed to take the lead at Memorial Stadium last season, dropping its sixth straight game to Clemson. The Tigers have 10 more appearances, but have failed to win the ACC for the first time since 2014. Clemson’s offense struggled most of last season and the Tigers will need to replace longtime defensive coordinator Brent Venables. Clemson handed FSU a 59-10 loss — its worst ever at home — in its final trip to Tallahassee in 2019.
Georgia Tech is trying to find its footing under head coach Geoff Collins, but the Yellow Jackets haven’t lost to Florida State since the 2014 ACC Championship Game and not in the regular season since 2003. This will be just the second meeting in Tallahassee since . yes Norvell’s FSU tenure began with a 16-13 home loss to the Yellow Jackets to open the 2020 season.
Florida State Football: Seminoles’ 2022 Schedule Analysis
The momentum seems to be going in the right direction for Miami. The Hurricanes feel rejuvenated with the hire of an aluminum court and new head coach Mario Cristobal. Miami won five of its final six games last season after starting 2-4. The only loss? in Florida. The Seminoles snapped a four-game losing streak against Miami last season with a thrilling 31-28 win at Doak Campbell Stadium. However, quarterback Tyler Van Dyke could be one of the best
